About The Author

Gerald Whitaker

Phillip Whitaker is an African American man of the Baby Boomer generation, and his life’s journey has been unique in molding his perception of race, identity, and humanity. Living and working with both Black and White communities, has profoundly influenced his viewpoint regarding the problem of race. By faith, personal understanding, and a commitment to finding truth, he has realized that individuals should not be categorized by color but by who they are, and what they do. His own journey brought him to pen this book to destroy the myth of race and present a deeper, more universal comprehension of who we are as human beings. For G. Phillip Whitaker, the solution to overcoming racial separation is straightforward: God.

About The Book

Race Instituted By God Or Invented By Man ?

In this powerful work of non-fiction, G. Phillip Whitaker leads us on a journey through history, reality, and the highly ingrained myths of “race.” With personal experience, historical investigation, and an appeal to reconciliation, The Myth of Race attempts to unravel the fabrications that have come to define human identity and division.

Whitaker takes his own lived experience—growing up in a racially segregated school setting, experiencing the brutal realities of racism as an adult—to investigate the origins and effects of racial classification. He dismantles the dominant myths, beginning with the etymology of the word “human” and its association with color, to the pseudo-scientific assumptions that have long categorized various groups according to skin color and physical characteristics.

The book is a critical analysis of the construction of the term “race” by earlier figures such as Johann Blumenbach and Immanuel Kant, who attempted to classify human beings in terms of random and biased criteria. Whitaker demonstrates how such conceptions, based on aesthetics and intellectual prejudice, have energized systematic divisions and injustice that still dominate societies across the globe.

More About The Book

Making Something Inspirational.

But The Myth of Race is not simply a book about the past—rather, it’s a call to healing and transformation. Whitaker gives us a vision of a future in which human beings can acknowledge our common beginning and love each other, not for the color of our skin but for the content of our character. This book is an invitation to comprehend, to look within, and to participate in the type of healing that will result in reconciliation and hope.

Through this book, Whitaker issues a call to all readers to revisit the lie of race and how it has long affected the world. He says that we can only continue moving forward as a single human family by doing it through truth, compassion, and dedication to God’s love for everyone.
